What we are finding in youth culture today, is a tendency for youth to be sucked in by the world and how it operates.
A study by George Barna has found that 56% of youth leave the church after Junior High. This is a problem we are addressing in our youth group by teaching spiritual disciplines and teaching about spiritual and emotional barriers to walking with Christ. We want our youth to have daily awareness of what is going on around them.
At Westfield Friends youth group, we want to prepare them on how to live counter-cultural by living like Christ and denying the flesh. This year, we will really focus on Transformational themes of Jesus in the four Gospel’s. We believe, by teaching these transformational themes of Jesus, the youth will live differently than the world. Jesus is the only key to dying to self and sin. Here in the Young Friends Zone, we want to prepare the youth to be lights for Christ in a world where those lights are growing dim. The Apostle Paul in Romans 12:1-2 warns us about living like the world: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
The bulls-eye at the Young Friends Zone at Westfield Friends Church is to walk with youth to become life-long followers of Jesus Christ. To do this we understand that as a church and youth group we must declare that we are equipped and ready to love and encourage our youth to become Christ-centered leaders who do not look like the world, but rather love Jesus Christ.
We will have youth group every Sunday evening from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Food will be provided. If you have any questions or concerns contact me via email at or my cell number (806) 977-0717.
