Each year, WFC in cooperation with Open Doors of Westfield gives out dozens of free backpacks for children going back to school. This opportunity to serve our city with a practical need for families displays the generous love God has for each and every person. If you are in need of a backpack, please contact the church office at 317-896-9233.
WFC serves every third Saturday at Northwood Food Pantry in Indy. This ministry has been a blessing to those serving and those at the Pantry.
KICKAPOO FRIENDS CENTER
The Kickapoo Friends Center is the location of many mission outreaches held by Westfield Friends Church. One of the favorite outreaches occurs each summer: Vacation Bible School. We have seen an average attendance of more than 90 children. This is not unusual to have this many children attend the June event. Serving all these children requires many volunteers such as camp counselors, cooks, sports directors, Bible study leaders and other camp related activity personnel. This is a great all-church outreach opportunity for each person to share in bringing the Gospel to the children who attend the VBS.
Over the past several years, the Center has also been working to develop a Work Study Program where Native American youth and others will be offered the opportunity to learn fundamental skills. With the buildings and shops completed, most tools have been acquired and now the Center is ready to start with the training programs. This outreach is primarily to the youth of the Kickapoo Native American tribe.
The Center features a wood shop, metal shop, mechanics shop, and a classroom equipped with a projector, flat panel monitor and seating for 14 students. The plan is to offer entry-level classes at first where students can learn to change their own oil in a car or build a small project in the wood shop, with the goal of moving on to more advanced levels. Looking into the future, the Center wants to add cooking classes as well as others. Opportunities about to teach classes at the Center.
Wednesday night is youth night at the Center. Normally, the youth come in and play, have dinner and then participate in Bible study. The Bible study has about 40 children attending the Wednesday nights. The Wednesday Quaker Men's Breakfast group sponsors the dinner and is a great opportunity for men who want to serve at the Center.
